How to Compare 720p Vs 1080i HDTV

When you are searching for a new HDTV you are going to be faced with the decision whether or not you should have a 720p or 1080i resolution television. The truth is both have a great picture and in most cases you will not be able to get a broadcast that will have the full 1080.

It is important to understand that purchasing a new TV can be overwhelming. You need to understand what the difference is in each option and ask yourself if you are going to get any benefit by paying for 1080?

Most broadcast will show it is 720 progressive scan which is a very high resolution. You will be able to get the highest resolution with either choice that you make. With the 720 you are seeing all the lines at the same time progressive "P" but with the 1080i the lines are showed interlaced.

You should note for sporting events it is better to have progressive scan so that there is no blurring affect. In some cases the interlace signal will give you a blur or choppy image so for the best picture progressive makes more sense. But in the bigger picture you will be satisfied with either choice because HDTV can not be beat.

Remember that before making a large purchase such as a HDTV you need to compare prices and features of each Television. You can also read reviews to get a better idea of what other people think so that when you are ready to buy you make the best choice.
